Am I eligible to enter?
If you are 18 years or older, you are eligible to enter the contest. This is a local contest for India and only residents of India or those authorized to live or work in India are eligible to participate, with some restrictions. See Official Rules
How does the judging work?
When you complete your registration form, you submit information about who you are and description and concept photos of your open source Moblin application. Starting May 12th, 2008 and continuing through June 13th, 2008, the Moblin community will vote on the top 10 most popular concepts voted by registered users. Each registered user can only vote once for up to 10 application concepts that they like. On May 12th, you'll be able to upload screenshots and movies of your application ideas. For the second round of judging (by local industry leaders), finalists will need to submit the actual executable version of their application. The grand prize will be selected by our panel of experts.
Do I have to provide the source code for my game? Who owns the Intellectual Property (IP) for the application?
We want you to have a successful business model with your application, which is why this is a BETA application contest. You retain all rights to your intellectual property, and you don't have to send us the source code. Finalists will assign to Intel the right to distribute their application BETA -- we'll post them on the contest website, show them at trade shows, etc. These are all great ways to increase the exposure of your application, and hopefully drive sales of your application.
Can my group or educational class submit an entry together?
Yes, but only one person or corporate entity will be awarded prizes, for tax purposes. Plan ahead and consult a financial advisor if you require tax advice.
What are the deadlines for the competition?
Full details are in the Official Rules. Concept entries are due by June 13th, 2008. After community judging, finalists need to submit working executable Beta applications by May 22nd, 2009.
Considering that there are a lot of professional application developers out there, what are the chances that a student/hobbyist like me will win?
The chances are good! Large companies and professional developers often have exclusive deals for distribution of their applications, or they have an existing technology relationship with Intel, which would disqualify them from the contest. We expect that the vast majority of our entries will be from small developers and student groups.
Can you provide any additional resources that can help me develop my open source application?
Yes! Continue to visit Moblin.org as we make changes to the site and the resource networks available to you. We have a Communities page which we will keep up-to-date with events, hardware program, developer mailing list, and articles that we think might be useful for contestants. Get feedback from your peers and professional developers.
Can we use open source components to create the application?
Yes, the only requirement is that you have the right to distribute the finished product. If the open source code also requires distribution of source code, make sure you are in compliance. Also, to qualify, the application must be developed using the Moblin SDK and be able to run on MID devices.
